PENETRATION: Is particularly important, especially when the project involves getting it in. Inside your Permasealed headlights, that is. Permatrator is a solvent sent from headlight heaven that works to dissolve sealant to help make your life easier when it comes to prying open those hellacious housings.
TOO COMMON: Headlights that have been sealed with “Perma” from the factory are becoming all too common these days. While that doesn’t cock block headlight junkies from doing what we do, it definitely makes it more of a pain in the ass. Until now, we’ve recommended slightly higher temperatures for longer, often repeated durations of time in order to pry them open.
HOW TO: Start round-one of opening as usual, 15-30 minutes in a pre-heated oven at roughly 250 degrees F. Starting in the corner of the light, start prying and creating a gap between the two halves of the housing. Once the seal is accessible, inject the Permatrator onto the surface of the glue, let sit for 1-2 minutes, and continue to pry. Depending on the headlight, you may need to repeat the heating / prying / injecting process over again.
REALITY CHECK: Permseal is a bitch, and although this stuff is good, it isn’t going to make your headlights fall right apart like a slow cooked brisket – it’s merely a supplement to help ease the process.
